Frequently asked questions about accreditation
Why is accreditation important?
Accreditation assures parents and the public that the school is focused on raising student achievement, providing a safe and enriching learning environment, and maintaining an efficient and effective operation. Accreditation extends across state lines, assuring parents and the public that their school adheres to high quality standards based on the latest research and successful professional practice.
Who decides which schools get accredited?
Accreditation is conducted by private, not-for-profit organizations designed specifically to conduct external quality reviews. In the United States, there are regional accrediting organizations operating in six different regions of the country.
How does Akron Institute of Herzing University's Accreditation differ from that of other institutions I am familiar with?
As mentioned above there are several accrediting bodies in the country that may differ somewhat in so far as accreditation requirements and processes. Other than that, there is no difference. Here are some other institutions that share the same type of accreditation:
- Ohio State University
- Kent State University
- University of Notre Dame
Other than an assurance of academic quality, are there any other benefits to regional accreditation?
Another way that accreditation benefits you is in tuition reimbursement. Many of our students continue their education long after they have graduated from one of our programs in order to advance their careers. Many employers want to verify the accreditation of a college or university before they will pay for tuition or fees as part of a company-sponsored benefits program.
